9 foot Hearts

When the world is breaking apart, love can put it together

in Unbound, by Carondelet Art and Resilience Class Spring 2022

Students from Carondelet High School painted this nine-foot Winged Heart for Unbound. The students were inspired by a Japanese art form and technique called "Kintsugi," which is the loving practice of repairing broken pottery with gold. In honor of this Kintsugi practice, the Carondelet students fashioned the heart's wings from socially painful and troubling news articles and used gold paint to symbolize the care and work we must all put in to heal the injustices and fractures in our world.
